Hyperhidrosis

What Is Hyperhidrosis?

It is estimated that approximately 8.5 million people in the United States suffer from excessive and uncontrollable sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is a disorder characterized by sweating in excess of the amount required to regulate body temperature. Primary hyperhidrosis has no discernable cause, while axillary bromhidrosis is the secretion of foul smelling sweat and is defined as the combination of hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis Treatments

Botox® – This treatment helps control hyperhidrosis by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive the chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

Vaser® – The Vaser® system is an advanced ultrasound technology that is commonly used in body contouring procedures to remove unwanted body fat. When a special technique is applied in the armpit area, the Vaser® system can be used to treat the superficial layers where the sweat glands are located. We use the Vaser® ultrasonic energy concentrated on the sweat glands in the armpits. This destroys the sweat glands, and with the Vaser® suction, the sweat glands and fat are removed from the axilla. The Vaser treatment doesn’t eliminate all the sweat glands, but it will normalize the sweating and patients typically see a 70 to 80 percent decrease in perspiration and odor.
