How Long Does a Vampire Facelift Last?

Despite the macabre name, the “Vampire Facelift™” is one of the safest ways to remove wrinkles, furrows and fine lines from the face. This is because the dermal filler used to plump out these areas is derived from the patient’s own blood platelets. Because of this, any chance of rejection is eliminated. Platelets are used because they have substances that can stimulate the growth of new cells and the rejuvenation of skin and tissue. The procedure is also nonsurgical and can be done right in the doctor’s office. There’s no downtime, and the patient can go home the same day.

What Happens During Vampire Facelift™?

Before anything happens, our dermatologist will take a medical history of the patient to make sure that she’s a good candidate for the procedure. When the doctor decides that the patient is a good candidate, he will first use a dermal filler such as hyaluronic acid, a type of sugar that is found in every living thing and is often used to give volume to flat, dry areas of the skin. Then, a small amount of blood will be drawn from the patient. The blood will be placed in a centrifuge to separate out its components, including the platelets. These platelets, tiny cells that are involved in healing, are then activated by calcium chloride or another substance and injected into the problem areas of the patient’s face with a fine needle.

How Long Do the Results Last?

Because they are meant to repair tissue, the platelets start to do the work of stimulating the body to make more collagen, fat and blood vessels, which gives the skin a youthful look. The patient should start to see improvement in their looks, including the diminishment of lines and wrinkles, over a three month period. The improvement should last for at least 15 months.
