Will Losing Weight Reduce My Cellulite?

Will Losing Weight Get Rid Of Cellulite?

If you’ve ever been embarrassed by your cellulite before, you’re certainly not alone. People of all ages, genders and weights might have cellulite. However, heredity affects the appearance of cellulite more than weight. Here’s how to reduce its appearance and love your reflection again.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite occurs when fat collects under the surface of the skin. The connective tissue that’s between the skin and the fat is what causes the appearance of cellulite. This creates a dimpled, cottage cheese-like appearance. Cellulite isn’t a health risk; in fact, it’s completely normal. Connective tissue is also irregular when it comes to thickness, which is why some areas of cellulite are more noticeable than others, even on the same body.

Cellulite in Men vs. Women

Cellulite is common in both men and women, although it’s more noticeable in women. This is because female connective tissue forms differently shaped pockets for the fat than male connective tissue. The shape of the pockets cause the cellulite to be more noticeable.

Will Losing Weight Get Rid Of Cellulite?

People of all weights can be affected by cellulite, no matter how slim or out of shape they are. Losing weight could help improve the appearance of cellulite, but it won’t get rid of it entirely. The fat that causes cellulite isn’t any different from the rest of the fat on the body. It’s not any worse for your health than other fat, it just looks different.

While weight loss is not a guarantee that you’ll get rid of cellulite, maintaining a workout regime and a healthy diet could certainly help reduce its appearance. If there’s less fat beneath the irregular connective tissue, there won’t be as much of a dimpled appearance. Usually, it takes about two months of being on a weight loss program to notice a reduction in cellulite. It’s important to maintain your new, lower weight, since yo-yo dieting and fluctuating your weight can make it harder to get rid of cellulite.
