5 Healthy Snacks to Serve at Your Holiday Party

It’s not always easy to eat right, especially during the holiday season. However, maintaining a healthy holiday diet is in fact possible. Here are some healthy snacks to serve at a party or to keep around the house during the holidays.

Smoked Salmon

Smoked salmon can be prepared and served in a variety of different ways, and is particularly popular when served on toast. Salmon is rich in omega-3 nutrients that help to keep blood pressure down and prevent heart disease.

Guacamole

Avocado, the main ingredient in guacamole, has an abundance of heart-healthy fats and other nutrients that work to decrease bad cholesterol. If you store bought guacamole, make sure there is not any added cream cheese outweighing the good unsaturated fats of the avocado. Just take a dollop to hold you over until dinner.

Salsa

Salsa consisting of limes, peppers and tomatoes is a low-calorie dip rich in vitamins A and C. Salsa is also rich in fiber and is a great alternative for non guacamole lovers.

Skinless Chicken

Consuming grilled chicken or chicken prepared on a kebab is a great way to keep your calorie intake low. Grilled chicken kebabs usually have no skin and the teriyaki glaze used to flavor the chicken has very little sugar and enough protein to hold you over.

Fruit

Having a fruit and cheese platter allows your guests to load up on vitamin C and calcium before dinner. However, eating too many hard cheeses, such as cheddar, can add up in calories. Try going with soft cheeses such as goat cheese or brie which have less calories but not as much calcium.
