3 Exercises to Help Tone Your Midsection
Let’s face it, as you’ve aged you have neglected certain aspects of your life. For a lot of people, that includes routine exercise. Over time, you haven’t adhered to your workout regimen like you once did, and now you’re seeing the repercussions. For many, the muscle group that suffers most is typically the abdomens. If this is the case, don’t worry. Some quick ab exercises to tone the midsection can all be done with the help of medicine; a medicine ball that is.
Overhead Circles With Medicine Ball
Stand so your feet are shoulder-width apart with a slight bend in your knee (don’t lock your knees). Lift a medicine ball of a comfortable weight directly over your head, and begin to circle the ball in a clockwise manner while maintaining a stable torso. Repeat the number of circles you performed clockwise as well as counter-clockwise to work the muscles evenly. The larger the circles, the more it tones your midsection.
Twisting Wood Chop
For another standing exercise, this time begin with your feet a little wider than shoulder-width. Lift the medicine ball high over your right shoulder. Exhale and contract your abs toward your spine, “chopping” down diagonally with the medicine ball across your body toward the outside of your left knee. Don’t fight the rotation. Bring the ball back up to starting position to complete one rep. Once you’ve completed your desired amount of reps on your right shoulder, move the ball to your left shoulder and mirror the movement.
Seated Russian Twist
Sit with your knees bent and your heel about 16 inches from your butt. While maintaining a straight back and holding the medicine ball, lean back slightly. Twist to the right, then twist to the left to complete a rep. The further the ball is from your body, the more difficult the exercise and the better results you will see.
